Dave Mason returns to Västervik. “I visited the Västervik area last year to get a taste for the Swedish granite and to climb one boulder problem: The Hourglass. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and I left empty handed but I loved every minute of bouldering in the forests and so when springtime came around I knew I had to return. I was returning for The Hourglass and there was no hiding the fact but I had trained hard and felt good so I knew it was a possibility. The Hourglass is an incredibly beautiful piece of rock and the climbing really packs a punch. Whilst there I visited numerous other crags and boulders hidden deep within the evergreen forests and discovered a whole host of hidden gems on a variety of different granite.”
