Paul Robinson is one of the world’s top climbers having climbed some of the hardest boulders in the world. He recently took some time to answer a few questions for ThreeSixFive.

Where in the world are you at the moment?

I am currently in Baltimore, MD after a 1 month trip to Colorado.

When and why did you start climbing?

I started climbing in 1998. I went to a friend’s birthday party at the climbing gym near my home town of Moorestown, NJ and was hooked!

Where is your favourite place that you have climbed and where would you like to climb?

My two favorite climbing areas are Fontainebleau, France and Cape Town, South Africa. Where would I like to climb… The Grampians in Australia; Maltatal, Austria; Varazze, Italy; Japan and then there are some areas that I would like to get back to around Europe.

What was the best climbing experience you ever had?

I can’t think of one particular time that was better than the rest but I’ve had some great times climbing with my friends and my girlfriend. Also when I’ve finished boulders such as Lucid Dreaming, Story of Two Worlds, and Meadow Lark Lemon, since they took me so long to complete.

What about the worst climbing experience?

When I fell off of Never Ending Story and tore the ligaments in my ankle, had to get surgery in Switzerland and then had to come home a few days later with my ankle in a boot. It was super painful, ended my trip to Switzerland a couple months earlier than planned and resulted in me not being able to climb for a long time.

You heading to South Africa soon, are there any problems you are looking forward to climbing?

There are a couple projects in Cape Town that I found last time I was there and then my friend Marijus, who lives there, has found some lines that I am excited to check out.

Are there any boulder problems that you really want to climb?

Buegeleisen in Maltatal, Gioia in Varazze and some projects I’ve tried in Switzerland.

We know you’re a great climber, but what don’t we know about you? What do enjoy doing when you’re not climbing?

Surfing! I love to surf! I like to travel and see new places. I love to eat pizza! When I’m not climbing these days its because I am filming or taking pictures of climbing.

What on your ipod at the moment?

Rap from the 90’s and early 2000’s, rap kind of went down hill after that. I also have the Beatles and Cat Stevens.

What next for you? Any projects you’re working on?

I go to South Africa and then Europe. Ill be away until mid December bouldering, deep water soloing and possibly doing some rope climbing. There are a few lines I want to repeat but I am mostly focusing on development.
